StormyDaze Labrador Retrievers
A Bit of Background
How We Got Started
Hi! My name is Mallori Seifert, and I am the heart and soul behind StormyDaze Labrador Retrievers.
I got my start in Labradors in the early 2000's when my mom began breeding. I quickly became very fond of the dogs, and before long I was attending shows with my mom and our Chocolate girl, Maggie. I was always involved in the puppy raising, but as I got older, I was privvy to a lot of the breeding side of things as well! In 2014, I planned my first litter and saw it through until my babies were 8 weeks old and going to their new families.
This is when we made the switch from Seifert Labradors to Jackpot Farms, as I had added both Beagles and Shorthorn Cattle to the mix, and plain old "Seifert Labradors" just wasn't going to cut it anymore!
Since 2014, I have made a lot of the breeding decisions, and actually bred my first AKC Champion in 2019, under the Jackpot prefix, 4 generations down from my foundation bitch, Rainy. Unfortunately, in early 2023, life happened and a lot of big changes were coming my way. I left California which had been home for 23 years, and moved to Washington state. I also lost my first stud dog, Storm, while all of this was going on, and I felt what better time to start over with a kennel name that truly meant something special to me.
StormyDaze is a bit of a double entendre as it combines both my foundation dog, Storm, and my foundation bitch, Rainy Daze, as well as recognizing what a stormy time in my life that was. So thus, StormyDaze Labrador Retrievers was born.
Philosophy & Mission
Breeding for the Betterment of Our Dogs
As a preservation breeder I spend my days not only caring for the dogs' physical and mental needs, but also studying them out in the yard and thinking about what stud dogs would complement my girls the best. But breeding is not just about looking at two dogs and thinking "That'll do nicely!", you also have to know the pedigrees behind both dogs and which ancestors should be carefully linebred on, and which ones are to be avoided at all costs.
Health testing is also of the utmost importance; a beautiful dog is nothing if it is doomed from the start. I am constantly attending seminars and webinars, and reading about the latest research to ensure that I am doing everything in my power to produce dogs who are sound in both mind and body. All of my dogs are health tested with breed appropriate phenotypical and genetic testing with OFA and PawPrint Genetics, and are only bred on passing scores.
I am also a firm believer in Sporting dogs being able to actually do their job! A Labrador Retriever should have "the substance and soundness to hunt waterfowl or upland game for long hours under difficult conditions; the character and quality to win in the show ring; and the temperament to be a family companion," according to the written AKC Breed standard. My dogs do not always have hunting titles as I usually don't have the extra time, but the proof is in the puppies, and I am very proud to have produced many real-life hunting Retrievers in my litters.
